Spring is a season of beautiful moments: warm sun on your face, a walk outside, and the first flowers in bloom. For the people KenCrest supports, these moments are more than momentary pleasures. They are moments of connection, confidence, and belonging. They are moments that matter. Your gifts are just as important as the spring rain, fostering the roots of community and providing important support for the individuals we serve.

George recently experienced a major change in life. After almost three years living in a Lifesharing home and sharing daily life with a host family, his support needs grew. George needed to move into a group residential home, where he could receive more help, while keeping the community and relationships he had already built at KenCrest. A move like this can bring uncertainty and mixed emotions for anyone, however, one especially important relationship remained constant: Jim.
Jim is a Community Connection Coach who spent time with George when he was in Lifesharing, learning his routines, preferences, and personality. After George moved into residential services, he continued to receive the same support through KenCrest’s Meaningful Day program, with Jim by his side. That familiar presence made all the difference. What could have been a difficult and isolating transition became steadier and more reassuring because someone he trusted helped make it feel like a home. Today, their bond is as strong as ever. They are more than staff and participants — they are like family. Earlier this year, George went to Virginia with Jim and his family, where they spent time fishing, playing basketball, and shopping together.
When we ask the people we support what matters most to them, their answers are deeply human: going to the beach, tending a garden, spending time with friends, cheering for their favorite team, going to work, and celebrating milestones.
Louise celebrated getting new hearing aids so she can hear everyone better, Michael enjoys the independence of taking the bus in the spring, and Montella loves spending time with her community, her friends, and her staff. Others look forward to spring walks, creative projects, and community outings that help them feel seen and included.
These moments are not ordinary; they are powerful reminders of how important your support is. They build independence. They strengthen relationships. They create joy and dignity through participation in everyday life.
Moments like these are made possible through thoughtful, consistent support.
Transportation, program staff, supplies, and flexible services enable each person to engage in ways that are meaningful to them. That’s where you come in.
