Module 1: Introduction to SWIFT Support
This introductory module provides an overview of the SWIFT Support framework—its purpose, guiding principles, and goals for building capacity within early learning environments. Participants will understand how SWIFT aligns with Early Intervention priorities and how it supports children’s success through prevention, intervention, and coaching.
Module 2: Trauma-Informed Care, Infant Mental Health, and
Co-Regulation
This module explores how early experiences, stress, and trauma shape a child’s development, behavior, and relationships—and how educators can respond with empathy, predictability, and connection. Participants will gain a deep understanding of trauma-informed care and infant mental health principles, emphasizing co-regulation as the foundation of emotional safety and self-regulation in young children. Co-regulation is the process by which caring adults guide and support children’s emotional regulation through consistent, nurturing interactions. In early learning environments, it serves as the cornerstone of both trauma-informed and positive behavioral practices. When adults model calm, respond to distress with sensitivity, and maintain predictable routines, children feel safe and learn to internalize regulation skills.
Module 3: SWIFT Support — How To
This module provides a step-by-step guide for implementing the SWIFT Support model in early learning environments. Participants will learn how to observe, document, and address challenging behaviors collaboratively with their team and families, integrating SWIFT principles into daily routines and classroom systems.
Module 4: Coaching in Early Learning Environments
Coaching is central to building sustainable change. This module focuses on relationship-based coaching practices that strengthen reflection, build confidence, and enhance fidelity of implementation. Participants learn to use observation, feedback, and goal-setting to support educators in applying SWIFT principles consistently.
Module 5: Positive Behavioral Strategies I — Prevention
Participants will explore proactive strategies that prevent challenging behaviors before they begin. This module emphasizes how intentional environments, consistent routines, and positive adult-child interactions support emotional regulation, engagement, and learning.
Module 6: Positive Behavioral Strategies II — Intervention
This final module builds on preventive strategies to address persistent or high-intensity behaviors using individualized, supportive interventions. Participants learn how to analyze behavior, identify underlying needs, and collaborate with families and teams to create consistent plans that promote positive change.
Program Outcome
Upon completion, participants will earn the SWIFT Support Specialist Certification, demonstrating their ability to integrate trauma-informed, relationship-based, and evidence-based strategies into daily practice.
