The United States spends more per person than on health care than any other nation. Our government is the number one funder of health, and that spending takes the form of Medicare and Medicaid. By the way, we all fund that with our taxes. The next largest contributor is employers. KenCrest is one of those. Health insurance is the second largest expense in our budget.
In spite of all that we have invested in health care, we are not the healthiest country in the world. Why is that?
- Health cost are mostly not about health, it’s the cost of treating illnesses. While we provide free prevention services (checkups), many of us do not take advantage of them.
- Prevention is also about our behavior. What we know about our risks and the steps we take to stay healthy matters. Maintaining a healthy weight, exercise, diet, sleep, getting rid of a few of our bad habits really does make a difference.
So why don’t we take charge of these two opportunities? I know we cannot escape our “genes, maybe in your family there is a history of some health problem. But your behavior might hold it off for a long time.
Health care insurance takes a big bite of our compensation budget. KenCrest pays $5000 per person annually for health insurance. What if we got healthier and we were able to shift from paying insurance to giving that money to you in your pay check? This is personal!
