Today at 11:30, PA Governor Tom Wolf will give his first budget address. He will outline what he wants to accomplish during the next year and how he expects to pay for it. Within a few days or so after the Governor’s address you will be able to go online and look at the actual dollar figures in a line item budget. Look for the areas in the budget under “Education” and “Department of Human Services” that will show the amount of money the Governor wants to spend this year on the various services KenCrest provides.

The proposed budget is then sent to the House and Senate where over the next 4 months they will slice and dice it based on their own priorities. The amended budget is supposed to be voted on by June 30th and go in to effect on July 1, 2015.

Here is where you come in! We all need to educate our legislators about what KenCrest does so that in the midst of all of the politicking, they will remember us and appropriate the necessary dollars so that we can do our work with the people we serve. Make an appointment to talk with your local state senator and representative to tell them what you do and who you serve and ask for their support as they negotiate the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

It is particularly important to educate legislators this year because there is an estimated 2 billion dollar deficit and they will be making hard choices in deciding where the budget dollars will be spent.

Talk with you next week…
