At KenCrest, it is our goal to assist the individuals we serve in seeking and pursuing a meaningful life. For KenCrest staff, this means doing whatever we can to make sure the people we serve connect with what makes them truly happy. Esther, a young woman with autism, was living in an adult community living home and working in a sheltered workshop. She did not seem happy often and the staff who worked for Esther wanted to help her find purpose and joy. With loving support, vision, and a little research, her community home supervisor Jen Hirschfield explored a volunteer opportunity with her at Meals on Wheels. Now, after over a month at Meals on Wheels, her staff and colleagues are simply raving about what a great fit it has been for her! Esther delivers 12 meals daily to those who are in need. What makes this story so important is not just what Esther has overcome, but how patient and dedicated her staff was in finding something that would make her feel empowered each day. Esther now does something she loves and brings others joy as well.
