It was gratifying to me to see so many Shine Story recipients be acknowledged at our Staff Recognition event recently. In every paycheck, there is a bright yellow slip of paper telling the story of one of you who did something positive in the life of another staff person, one of the people we serve, or someone in the community.
Typically these stories describe small niceties, helpful supports, or in some cases, lifesaving interventions. Many staff have offered, in talking with me about their Shine Story, that “I just did what anyone would do. It was no big thing!”
“That’s the point,” I tell them. “It is the small things that you do on a daily basis, not just for the people you serve, but for the people you work with, and others, that creates an atmosphere of Positive Approaches…KenCrest’s defining philosophy.”
The best part for me is that I get to take each and every Shine Story recipient out to lunch to show our appreciation. So far, I estimate that I have had a Shine Story lunch with over 130 of you! Shine Story recipients have come from every area of KenCrest, from Direct Service Professionals to teachers, aides, bus drivers, accountants, IT staff, maintenance and, well you get the picture. Shine Stories have come from all parts of KenCrest; Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
I always learn a lot about the person, what they do and what ideas they have about making KenCrest Services a better place to work during these lunches. It is always a powerful experience for me.
Anyone can nominate a fellow staff person for a Shine Story. Just write up your story and pass it on to your Director who will forward it to Mik Gregoire, Director of Marketing and Communications.
