KenCrest is a member of a number of organizations that promote the interests and visibility of people with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism. The statewide provider group that we belong to in Pennsylvania is PAR (Pennsylvania Advocacy and Resources for Autism and Intellectual Disabilities). PAR represents over 100 organizations that deliver more than $1.7 Billion in services and supports to more than 51,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities across the state. PAR’s offices are in Harrisburg.
KenCrest has always been an active member of PAR so that we can stay up-to-date with what is happening in the legislature as well as in the state offices that regulate us such as the Office of Developmental Disabilities (ODP), The Department of Education, the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) and the Department of Human Services (DHS).
For the past several years I have served on the Board of Directors of PAR and just recently was elected to another 2 year term on the Board. This position allows me to not only keep informed on a daily basis of information that can affect KenCrest’s supports and services, but being a Board member also allows me to participate in policy development and planning that can create a better future for people with intellectual disabilities and the agencies such as KenCrest who provide services to them.
You can visit PAR’s website at www.par.net for information about autism and intellectual disabilities in PA. There is also info there on finding services, the latest news in the community disability field, resources for advocacy, information about regulations and laws, and stories from the field.
Talk to you next week…
