As I move around KenCrest, whether it be at a meeting at one of our group homes, visiting a day program, traveling to Connecticut or Delaware for a Shine Lunch, or talking with educators and therapists at one of our satellite offices, the issue of communication always comes up. It always comes up because I always ask the people I’m talking with, “How are we doing in letting you know what’s going on?” The answers, of course, vary and most people are polite and usually say, “It’s ok.” When I ask people for suggestions about how we can communicate better to them, that’s when I get the real answers. I do know that there’s not one right way to reach everyone and that’s why we use a whole variety of approaches to get information out to the KenCrest universe. Many people have asked me to communicate more often and more personally. I’ve decided to initiate a weekly note to everyone. The notes will talk about the important issues KenCrest faces both internally and externally. I will keep them short and to the point. The notes will go out through KenCrest email and as a Blog on the KenCrest Website.
Not everyone has a KenCrest email account (yet), so feel free to share your copy of the notes with your co-workers and give them the Blog address below. That way everyone will be able to access it.
KenCrest is a broad and glorious agency providing supports and services to children, adults, families and even other agencies in our system across Pennsylvania, Delaware and Connecticut. Although I’ll try to write about broader issues that affect everyone, not every issue I write about will be relevant to each one of you. My weekly note will be posted every Monday with a link to www.kencrest.org. Please read it and let me know what you think.
