Transitioning
KenCrest has provided innovative services to children and adults with special needs for over 100 years. Thousands of infants and toddlers benefit from our outstanding early intervention programs, while thousands of adults determine their own lives by choosing from our selection of community-based and employment programs. All of KenCrest's programs offer individualized opportunities to bring ability to life.
School to Adult Life Transition
Just as KenCrest assists families during the transition from preschool to public school, we assist in the transition from school to adulthood. The KenCrest Transition Team, headed by a group of KenCrest families whose teenagers were once in our early intervention programs, has developed informational outlines to assist students and their families navigate the school to work transition process. We will be happy to mail you a transition "roadmap" with specific contact information for your county. Email KenCrest EmployNet with your request, questions, comments or concerns.
How to Begin Transition Planning
Each county is slightly different in what they require during the transition process. Visit TransitionMap for more detailed information on the transition process, including the six areas of transition: school to work, post high school education, housing, social/recreational activities, health care and respite care, and financial and estate planning. For specifics on your county, please go to TransitionMap.
It is important to be an advocate for your child; ask questions, make follow-up phone calls to be sure that your registration is completed and filed; and use the Internet to access the latest information on transitioning.
