People First Language

KenCrest has published a guide for ways you can change how you make others feel by choosing your words more carefully. If you will take a couple of minutes to read People First you will see how sensible and easy it can be.
You…me…all of us may be contributing to the poor ways that our fellow human beings with disabilities are treated. The everyday language you use is a simple but powerful reflection of attitudes about others. The words you choose can be hurtful or they can be affirming – most often without even realizing the impact of those words.

The People First principle is "Focus on the person, not the disability."
